Free double lesson on self-reflection

This page covers two things: SAMRUM's free teacher pack, which you can use in class as a reflection resource, and SAMRUM as a family tool that you can point a parent towards when they ask for something concrete. The two are separate — but both are free for you as a teacher.

Give your students a neutral vocabulary for their own patterns, needs and boundaries. Everything is free – the package, the test and the profile.

What is it?

A short reflection course where students work with their own reaction patterns, needs and boundaries. They answer a questionnaire on their own phone and get a private profile – a shared vocabulary for things like pressure, alone time, fairness and conflict.

  • Can be used for work with wellbeing, self-reflection and class conversations – fits in form time or pastoral sessions
  • You run it yourself with a ready-made package – no certification, no external facilitators
  • Test and profile are free for students – permanently, not a trial period

Frequently asked questions about the teacher pack

Last updated Written and reviewed by Thomas Silkjær, founder of SAMRUM

Which year groups is the pack designed for?

The pack is built for lower-secondary — primarily years 7–10 (approx. ages 13–17). It also works in Danish efterskole and 10th-grade centres. The profile and questions are age-adapted for teenagers, and the reflection prompts assume the level of self-insight and abstraction you typically have at that age. It is not suited to primary or middle school.

SAMRUM from a teenager's perspective

What does the pack require in preparation?

About 15–20 minutes of prep. Read the 4-page teacher guide, send the parent letter via Aula or ForældreIntra a few days before, and have the projector ready for the intro slides. Students use their own phone via a QR code — no printing, no student lists, no IT setup. All copy is ready to paste.

  • No printing, no student lists, no integration needed

How SAMRUM works

As a teacher, can I see a student's answers or profile?

No. All profiles and answers are private and belong to the student. Neither teachers, management, DPO nor school administration have access. It's a deliberate design decision: students must be able to be honest without anything ending up in school records. Your role is to facilitate the reflection, not to see or document answers. The lesson 2 reflection exercise is built on what students choose to share themselves — nothing else.

  • No teacher, management or administration access
  • Profiles belong to the student — not to the school
  • Nothing ends up in student plans or school records
  • The reflection is built on what students choose to share
  • The student keeps the profile after the lessons — also at home

Privacy

Does the school or DPO need to approve anything?

The pack includes a 1-page data description for management and DPO. It covers what is collected, where it is stored (EU), who can see it (only the student), and how data is deleted. SAMRUM is GDPR-compliant, and students do not create accounts using school identity — they create their own private account. No data processing agreement with the school is needed, because the school is not the data controller.

  • Students create their own private account — not via school login
  • The school is not the data controller — the student is
  • No data processing agreement needed

Can I also recommend SAMRUM to a parent who asks for advice?

Yes. The teacher pack and the family product are separate, but both free to start. If a parent asks about tools for teenage conflicts, sibling conflicts or blended-family dynamics, you can point them to the relevant topic pages. You don't need to formally recommend anything — it can be mentioned the way you'd mention a book or an exercise. The family pays for any reports themselves; the school is not involved.

  • Can be mentioned informally, not as a formal recommendation
  • Free test and profile for the family — permanently
  • Reports are one-time purchases, not a subscription

How the course runs

1

Lesson 1: Questionnaire (45 min)

Brief intro from slides, then quiet answering on own phone (~12 min). Students get a private profile of their personality traits immediately.

2

Lesson 2: Reflection (45 min, 2–5 days later)

Guided walkthrough of 4 themes and pair exercise: "What surprised you? What do you need when you're under pressure?" No pressure to share.

There's nothing to print – everything runs via slides and QR codes.

Why it works

For the student

Teenagers often lack language for their own boundaries, reactions and needs. When they feel pressured, they react with anger or withdraw. SAMRUM gives them words for why – without anyone judging.

For you as teacher

Many conflicts in and around secondary school are about lacking language. When students can put words to what they need, it becomes easier to talk about – also in class.

For the school

The teacher shows slides and keeps time. No preparation beyond reading the guide (4 pages). Everything is and remains free.

Privacy and security

  • The school and teacher have no access to students' answers or profiles
  • Students can consent themselves (13+ years per data protection law)
  • All data is hosted in the EU and can be deleted at any time by the student

Frequently asked questions for teachers

Students need to use their own phone for these two lessons — it gives them the private space they need. They log in with a personal account, so the profile follows them home. Alternatively, Chromebooks or similar can be used — ask IT to whitelist samrum.io beforehand.

SAMRUM shows no alarms or negative assessments. All answers produce a normalising profile. But self-reflection can trigger thoughts — use the school's normal support system if a student needs to talk to someone.

No. Students over 13 can consent themselves per data protection law. We recommend sending the parent letter as information — it's included in the package.

The extended test (100 questions) takes about 12 minutes. There's also a short version (60 questions, about 8 min) for students who need it. Both versions give a full personality profile.

No. The test and profile are free — permanently, not a trial. The profile is a finished product, not a teaser for something paid. If a family chooses to use SAMRUM further at home, that's their decision.

No. All answers and profiles are private. You facilitate the course but never see what students answer. This is a deliberate choice — it gives students the confidence to answer honestly.
